Sealed Concrete Maintenance

Even though concrete floors are  extremely durable, they still require proper maintenance to keep them looking good for long periods of time.   Stained and coated concrete still needs the same type of maintenance that other flooring materials require.    This includes dust mopping on a regular basis, and wet mopping, or auto scrubbing in larger commercial settings.   It will also require periodic professional recoating services to keep it looking looking good for many years.    The maintenance process is intended to protect the longevity of the urethane, acrylic, or epoxy sealers on the surface of the concrete.   These sealers make the floor surface more durable, but they can look damaged and worn if not properly maintained.

Maintenance

As with all floor types, the most important thing to do is clean dust, dirt, and pebbles from the floor regularly, which means once or twice daily. This may sound excessive, but it is necessary to keep your floor looking good for as long as possible. On polished surfaces, small particles like dust between one’s shoes and the floor will slowly sand the finish to a dull appearance. Dust may even become embedded in the seals.

The following is a list of some common acids:

• Acid Bowl Cleaners,
• Bathroom cleaners.
• Vinegar,
• Some degreasers,
• Most fruit juices,
• Ammonia,
• Alcoholic beverages, and
• Many household cleaners.

Most concrete flooring material used today are sensitive to both acidic and alkali cleaners.

We recommend using cleaning products that indicate they are PH neutral.    There are many brands on the market.   Higher PH product for deep cleaning on occasion will also be appropriate.    Always test the cleaner in an inconspicuous place before using it on the entire floor.
